چکیده
In 2021, biological control programme against gipsy moth ( Lymantria dispar ) populations was carried out by introduction of the entomopathogenic fungus Entomophaga maimaiga on territory four State Forest Enterprises: Municipal Enterprise (ME) ‘Management Forests, Agriculture and Forestry’, Nessebar; Game Enterprises (SGE) Nessebar Balchik; Forestry (SF) Vidin. The pathogen introduced during period 15-26.03.2021 in 34 localities - five ME Nessebar, eight SGE ten Balchik eleven SF average number gypsy population density locations relatively high, ranging between 0.4-15.9 egg mass/tree area SGE 11.9-65.0 ME Nessebar. mortality young caterpillars (first-third instar) due to E. varied 2.6% (SGE Balchik) 13.0% (SF Vidin), later fourth-sixth instar 20.7% Vidin) 52.4% (ME Nessebar). overall lowest region (26.1%), followed Vidin (33.7%), (48.5%) (55.9%). As a result introduction, severe outbreaks significantly suppressed. high resting spores persists surface layers soil other two areas (Vidin has potential suppress L. dispar attacks next years.

Discovery of Entomophaga maimaiga in North American gypsy moth, Lymantria dispar.
An entomopathogenic fungus, Entomophaga maimaiga, was found causing an extensive epizootic in outbreak populations of the gypsy moth, Lymantria dispar, throughout many forested and residential areas of the northeastern United States. This is the first recognized occurrence of this or any entomophthoralean fungus in North American gypsy moths, and its appearance was coincident with an abnormally...
متن کاملCharacterization of Gypsy Moth (Lymantria dispar) Nuclear Polyhedrosis Virus.
Characterization of the proteins and nucleic acid of the gypsy moth nuclear polyhedrosis virus isolated in Ithaca, N.Y. (LdNPV-IT) is presented. A total of 29 viral structural proteins were identified by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis when the virus was isolated in the absence of alkaline protease activity. Fourteen surface envelope viral proteins were identified by l...
متن کاملTree Mortality in Mixed Pine-Hardwood Stands Defoliated by the European Gypsy Moth (Lymantria dispar L.)
Defoliation by the European gypsy moth (Lymantria dispar L.) and subsequent tree mortality have been well documented in the northeastern United States. In this study we evaluate tree mortality after initial defoliation in mixed pine-hardwood stands in the southeastern United States as the range of European gypsy moth expands. In 1993, 46 mature pine-oak and pine-sweetgum stands were selected on...
متن کاملWithin-host interactions of lymantria dispar (Lepidoptera: lymantriidae) nucleopolyhedrosis virus and entomophaga maimaiga (Zygomycetes: entomophthorales)
The interaction of two gypsy moth (Lymantria dispar) pathogens, a nucleopolyhedrosis virus (LdNPV) and a fungus (Entomophaga maimaiga), were studied by assessing mortality among dually inoculated hosts. When fourth and fifth instar gypsy moths were inoculated with a range of doses of LdNPV and a fixed dose of E. maimaiga on the same day, the majority of larvae died from E. maimaiga infections r...

Transcriptomic profiles of the serious lepidopteran insect pest Lymantria dispar (gypsy moth) were characterized in the larval midgut in response to infection by Bacillus thuringiensis kurstaki, a biopesticide commonly used for its control. RNA-Seq approaches were used to define a set of 49,613 assembled transcript sequences, of which 838, 1,248 and 3,305 were respectively partitioned into high...
